Day 1Ephesus Shore Excursion

Ephesus, famous throughout the ancient world for its Temple of Artemis. First visit Hadrian Temple. It is dating back to 118 AD and the people of Ephesus greatly reconstructed it in the 4th century. This impressive Corinthian style temple has beautiful reliefs on the porch. According to local beliefs, the Medusa head on the porch would protect the city from its enemies Proceed to Celsus Library. The library is the best structure of its kind. They embellished the façade of the library with four statues personifying virtue, wisdom, fate and genius.

Also You will walk the Marble Road, that runs between the Celsus Library and the Great Theater which is part of the sacred walkway. The Great Theatre dates back to the Hellenistic period. In the 1st century AD, Romans succesfully reconstructed and expanded until it reached the seating capacity of 25,000. Also, Paul preached to the Ephesians in great theatre. Today performances take place in here

House of the Virgin Mary

She spent the last years of her life. Based on the visions of a German nun, they discovered it in 1891. Then Pope Paul VI visited the shrine in 1967. After that Pope John Paul II came in 1979 and Pope Benedict XVI visited in 2006.
